An award winning venue… and more
Not only has Bournemouth won a long list of accolades over the years, such as being voted the Best UK Resort in 2008 as part of the group leisure awards, the Bournemouth International Centre has also secured a string of awards. Since the complex opened in 1984 it’s become a firm fixture on the tour circuit for many international acts, as well as being chosen as a conference destination for the UK’s three main political parties over the years. One of the reason that the likes of Katy Perry, Michael McIntyre and Bob Dylan have taken tours to Bournemouth International’s stage in the huge Windsor Hall, is because it has a large capacity, with standing room for 6,500 people at a time.
Renovation and redevelopment
In both 1990 and 2003 the complex underwent renovation to improve the facilities and redevelop it further. Purbeck Hall was added as part of the 1990 redevelopment and in 2003 construction of Solent Hall and expansion of Windsor Hall began. This means that the overall licensed capacity for the venue currently stands at around a staggering 10,000 - showing why it deserves the title for one of the largest indoor venues in the UK!
Even before the redevelopment and expansion of the centre, the complex was proving popular and once the renovations were completed it went on to win lots of awards, including the Number 1 UK Town Convention Centre in 2006, Outstanding Contribution to Tourism in the same year and in 2008 it was a shortlisted finalist in the World’s Best Congress Centre, as part of the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) awards.

Tregonwell Hall is one of the original rooms of the centre and is a great space for when you require flexible spaces. Retractable seating can be moved to create a larger area for up to 1,500 people, and the carpeted floor and soundproofing results in a more intimate space. We have a large range of banquet chairs and circular banqueting tables that add elegance to all your sophisticated occasions. When you want easy access to refreshments and food, then Purbeck Hall and Solent Hall are ideal. These are the newer additions to the complex with the Purbeck Hall often chosen for social events and exhibitions, with its domed roof and elegant arched windows making it a beautiful location for events.
It’s also a favourite for sporting occasions, thanks to its uninterrupted floor, which is also converted into the complex’s seasonal ice rink. The integral bar means guests can order refreshments easily - ideal for your social occasions. The Solent Hall also provides easy access to tasty food and drink as it’s connected to two bars and cafes. This room accommodates up to 2,000 people standing and is another flexible space that can be used for large events, stage shows, exhibitions, conferences and banquets.
Smaller suites available
The Bournemouth International Centre is a large venue, but it also caters for much smaller events too. In fact the complex is home to a further 14 suites, lounges and pavilions that you can hire. These rooms vary vastly in size, with the largest catering to around 350 and the smaller suites perfect for groups of 20, such as the Presidents Suite.
