Our Second Centrepoint Sleepout

Our Second Centrepoint Sleepout

For the second year running the team from Furniture Hire UK braved the rain and the cold to bed down for the night in Exchange Square in Central London. The Sleepout, organised by the homeless charity Centrepoint, aims to raise awareness of homelessness in the UK and raise money for the charity, which provides support and accommodation to homeless people across the country.

A cold night with great entertainment

Furniture Hire UK has supported Centrepoint for some time, and has provided logistical support for the Sleepout on a number of occasions. This year 12 members of our team took part in the event, which was a great evening of entertainment with live music from Eliza Doolittle and Stooshe and a comedy set from Tim Vine. Once the entertainment ends however, it’s off to bed on a damp concrete floor with nothing much more than a sleeping bag! After participating in the event last year (where we almost froze!) most of the team had wrapped up pretty well however even so the icy winds and cold hard floors made us grateful that we usually have a roof over our heads – unlike many of the people which Centrepoint supports.

After being woken at 6am, it was a quick breakfast and then back to the office for the team to do a day’s work – which certainly isn’t easy when you’ve spent the night out on the streets.

The most successful Sleepout to date

This year a record 850 people took part in the event, which raised over £300,000 for the charity. We’d like to thank everybody who sponsored us for the event, especially our friends at Telecoms World who gave a generous donation. We’d also like to thank all of our staff for taking part in the Sleepout for the second year – and to Centrepoint for putting on yet another great event.
